Pexeso is a series of experimental theatre performances – the number of which is open-ended – that bring together actors and visual artists on stage. Each performance is a unique combination of individual acts centred on the classic theme of love. During the creative process, the artistic ideas of the individuals are brought together under the director’s guidance to form a complex work, resulting in a concept that plays with the authorship of the entire project. By blurring the conventions of classical theatre, it leaves unanswered the question of whether the author is the director, the curator, or the artists and actors themselves, and how many works have actually been created.
The selection of artists respects their usual form of artistic expression. At the same time, however, it opens up new possibilities for presenting their artistic vision through a different medium. Artists from different generations and various artistic fields – such as painting, installation, photography, sculpture and video art – have been specifically approached to bring their work to the stage. The artists are thus given the opportunity to break away from their usual means of expression.
